Finally, we have a time slot, a fixed time for interaction and story telling time with ladies from the community. Every first & third Wednesday from 11.30am to 12.30.

Our first session revolved around introducing ourselves and sharing our aspirations & dreams. The highlight of the session was a story from one of the members, who till today regrets not having been given the opportunity to learn to read & write.

This is her story.

Mai chhoti thhi to mujhe padhne ka bahut shauk tha. Par gareebi aur ladki honey ke kaaran mere mummy-papa ne mujhey school nahi bheja. Hum rajasthan k eek gaon me rehte the aur mai bakriyan charaane maidan me lekar jaati thhi. Raste me mujhe mere hum-umr ke bacche school jaate dikhte the. Unse A,B,C,D seekhti. Unhe ratthe ratthe mai pedh ke neeche so gayi, mujhey pataa hi nahi chala ki mai kahan hoon. Jab meri aankh khuli to sham ho rahi thi aur sari bakriyan mere aas-paas khadi, mere utthne ka intezaar kar rahi thi!

Aaj bhi mujhey padhne ka mauka milega toh mai hamesha padhna seekhoongi.

In subsequent sessions we shared more memorable incidents from our lives and read-aloud stories like Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Kabuliwala’.
